Teething can be a challenging phase for both babies and parents, and finding the perfect teether is a true game-changer. It took me a lot of trial and error before finding some amazing teethers that helped my little one cope with her fussy teething moments. So here’s our top picks of infant teething toys with insights into why they are great and any other considerations.

Adoringly nicknamed “Chicky”, this is one of baby N’s favourite teethers! How do we know? She lunges quickly towards it anytime we bring it into the play area. Plus it’s a great distractor for when she drinks milk.

We introduced it right about the time when she was super into sucking her fingers around her 3rd to 4th month. On top of helping redirect her finger sucking efforts, this teething toys was super helpful for practicing gripping with its wrist design that has an internal holder.

ProsCons
– Soft (so it’s safe to leave her alone with it)
– Different chewing textures and points
– No pointy ends

Bought this teething toy because it was highly recommended by other mummies in my EDD group who shared it as a cheap and affordable option.

To be honest, it was quite scary to introduce this to baby at the start. This is because when her grip was lousier in the early months, her efforts to use the teether seemed like it might result in her poking her eyes out. I ended up retiring it for 2 months or so and re-introduced it to her at 6months to her delight.

My conclusion? This is a good option only when your baby has a better handle on her grip for safety reasons.

ProsCons
– Makes noise
– Colourful and bright design
– Different chewing textures and points
– Need to be used under supervision

This was an entirely impulse decision on my end because this teething toy looked really aesthetic and pretty. I also thought the frame offered many areas to practice gripping.

However what I did not anticipate was the design made it quite hard for baby to use it as an actual teether because she could barely keep it in her mouth. This frustrated her a lot but she still keeps going to it – so perhaps it’s more fun as a toy than actually helping her relieve her teething issues?

ProsCons
– Aesthetic
– Doubles up as a ball
– No pointy ends
– Doesn’t seem to work well as a teether

Also another aesthetic purchase, I bought it simply because it was super pretty. The fact that it was rounded and safe-looking also prompted my purchase.

Luckily baby seems to like it as much as mummy did! It’s one of our favourite teething toys to bring out because it’s compact (compared to the other teethers) and easy to attach it to a safety strap due to the circular design.

ProsCons
– Aesthetic
– No pointy ends
– Gripping practice

My confinement nanny recommended getting water teethers as they could be chilled in the fridge and provide better relief cold. I liked the Autumnz brand for their affordable and quality products (for my breastfeeding journey) so when I saw they offered water teethers it was a no-brainer and I got two!

Later I discovered that while water teethers are indeed superior at helping relief gum issues, there’s a downside. If the whole design is the water part, the teether will be too cold for baby to hold when it’s just out of the fridge. (See better alternative below) I ended up wrapping a hanky area one area so baby could use it comfortably. Else she would just bite it from the mat without touching it haha.

ProsCons
– Able to chill and relief teething better
– Different textures
– May be too cold for baby to hold

After learning my mistake from the above teether, I decided to get this cooling ring set instead from Nuk (yet another trusted brand in my experience).

The smart design allows for one part to be cooled in the fridge before being attached to the other part where baby can use as a comfortable handle. The shapes of the two-part (ring with a nub and crescent moon) teething toy allows baby to get to different parts of her mouth comfortably compared to other ring teethers that are just round.

Our absolute new favourite teether of them all now!

ProsCons
– Able to chill and relief teething better while comfortably holding it
– Different textures
– Ergonomic design to get to different parts of mouth
N/A

After trying out so many teethers, I realized after a while that I lacked one with a design that allowed her to reach deeper inside her mouth. This was after my observation that she enjoyed it alot when I rubbed her innermost gums when doing her daily mouth cleaning with my finger and Nuk Baby Oral Wipes.

As such, I found this banana teether that was shaped in a way that allowed her to reach further inside her mouth for relief. With this she also could practice her gripping skills – hopefully will translate to her weaning skills.

ProsCons
– Able to reach further inside her mouth for relief
– Gripping practice
– Need to be used under supervision
(if baby isn’t good with gripping)
